I hope I didn't change the meaning. If I missed anything let me know. This bubble pack radio gets framed and hung in the GMRS Web Magazine Hall of Shame.------------------ Doug Smith Editor, GMRS Web Magazine Support our advertisers! Tell them you found them at GMRS Web! KAF9830 WA6GON

No, no... This radio was quite inferior to other radios I have used on GMRS up to now. When I write a review, I am unbiased. I do not include my emotion or my friend's emotional views into my writings. This review, as published, comes off a bit biased, which is not my doing. I found both good and bad with this radio, and wrote accordingly. Doug, you simply emphasised the bad a little more to make sure it sunk in. As always, you are most welcome to restructure my contributions, since you are a much better editor than I am. I am too technical and you add a needed personal touch to my techno-babble. Leave it the way you published it. You are (as much as I am) emotionally charged by the unethical and inaccurate promotion of the Audiovox radio and that was something I left out of the review that perhaps should be there. ------------------ Paul Shinn GMRS Web Magazine Technical Editor

Paul, I am somewhat curious of the procedure to measure output power. The review stated it had a permanently attached antenna. Perhaps the antenna has a feed impedance other than 50 ohms? ------------------ Bill AD6MJ

I used a recently calibrated IFR 1200S service monitor. The antenna on the Audiovox is a 1/4 wave helical type. I did sweep the antenna and found it's resonant frequency around 475 MHz. That was with a 50 ohm bridge. I'll bet the intended impedance is 50 ohms. I did not go so far as to sweep the tank circuit though. Either way, low output power. How often in the real world would that helical antenna be a perfect 50 (or other impedance) load? Proximity to objects, bodies, etc. all affect impedance and reactance of the antenna on a portable radio. ------------------ Paul Shinn GMRS Web Magazine Technical Editor

Thanks Paul. I agree it does sound like intended load is 50 ohms. Perhaps, some of the other marketing comments are misleading the advertised power appears to be false. It would be interesting to somewhat reverse engineer the thing and see if two watts would in any way even be possible.------------------ Bill AD6MJ
