I upgraded to WordPress version 2.3 tonight . A bunch of widgets broke as did other functionality. It is going to take a day or two to put it all back together. Well maybe…It isn’t actually broken - just in between versions.

Most of the modifications I had made were to theme files which were not touched thank goodness.  The widgets I was using just needed to be reactivated or upgraded. WordPress 2.3 now checks widgets for new versions.  The developers added a TAG option form each article so the site now sports a TAG cloud at the bottom of the main blog page.  Widget support is built in. The new WordPress 2.3 is outstanding. What a gem.  Since the beginning, learning and using WordPress has been well FUN.

Let me know if you find any weirdness.

There is a bug but I am not yet sure of the impact. This database error:

WordPress database error: [Table 'wp_00478a7_0.wp_post2cat' doesn't exist]
SELECT cat_ID AS ID, MAX(post_modified) AS last_mod FROM `wp_posts` p LEFT JOIN `wp_post2cat` pc ON p.ID = pc.post_id LEFT JOIN `wp_categories` c ON pc.category_id = c.cat_ID WHERE post_status = ‘publish’ GROUP BY cat_ID

The database error above does not appear on the default 2.3 admin screen so this error may be related to the Tiger Admin screen replacement widget.

Other stuff I had to do included updated permalinks so Lester’s excellent Email widget would continue working. Once the update to permalinks was done the email option came back to life.

During my 2.3 upgrade I was never sent back to the screen to reactivate widgets. That had to be done manually which turned out to be a good idea because the new 2.3 told me about upgrades to various widgets. Since 2.3 had widget support I also did not need the plug in that added widget support.
